We have now been over for another 3 therapy sessions, and every time
we leave Island Dolphin Care we have progressed even further. Ivan is now nearly 10 years old and can now say a handful of
words and is very fluent with signs. He can tell us if he is hungry, tired, thirsty, sore or wants to go somewhere, which
is such a big break through, as every parent knows there is nothing more frustrating than not being able to communicate with
your child.
Ivan also uses his own touch screen computer at home and school now,
which is a big help if he doesn't know a sign for what he wants or needs something or someone. Although he is still small
in stature, he is mobile, but can't manage long distances. His feeding is night and day, and we can even take him for
a McDonalds now without feeling quilty that he's not eating. He still requires us to attend to all his personal functions
throughout the day, but hey we can cope with that, as we are just so happy he has progressed so far, and in such a short time.
Although the trips over to the USA are very expensive, when it comes
down to improving your childs quality of life, there is just no price too dear to pay!! We are just really grateful
for everyone who has helped or donated money to help us get where we are now. Ivan still deals with many setbacks, involved
with him just growing creates problems with his sight, for instance. It is an ongoing plight for us, as you can imagine we
just want to continue helping Ivan improve in all aspects of his day to day living. Ivan is a big inspiration to us all,
and you never find Ivan without a smile, or the willingness to give a cuddle or a kiss, no matter what he has had to deal
with that day.
We have tried without succeeding to try and get this information out
to other peolpe around the world. As this is a great, and very worthwhile therapy, that could benefit so many other peolpe
